 Twin Jesus Christs, 2001 Gigantic sequin-encrusted statues, which show Jesus as an oversized, colourful twin figure, a deep black Buddha projecting out of the wall – the pictures and sculptures of Sang-Kyoon Noh seem more assimilated in popular culture than in their religious origins. Behind the unconventional treatment of religious symbols and figures there is concealed a deeply blasphemous attitude, which forces viewers to apprehend the sacred symbolism in a different way from what they are used to. The Christ figure as a double messiah in a glittering costume points in this way to technical and medial reproducibility and with that to the death of the original.
