Zeus Playing2008 / Interactive InstallationAntonio Barrese Before the light there was current, otherwise how would we explain the Big Bang? God dreamed up current the night before the first day, his head resting on some blueprints of a semi-finished meadow. Not understanding what his dream meant, he gave it to Zeus, a simulacrum of himself on a planet he was designing. 500 electrified rods are suspended from an aerial structure, inviting the viewer to penetrate them, to walk through the intricate body they form. To accept their invitation without fear is to be able to move through a cloud of sparks. Antonio Barrese ((born 1945, Milan) completed his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. He founded the MID Group in 1963 and became a leading exponent of kinetic and programmed art. In the MID, he produced objects, structures, installations and films and did research into synthetic images and experimental aesthetics. From 1972 on he more concentrated on design, which he believes holds great potential for the avant-garde artist, he produced a number of works of visual narrative in the '80s and '90s. In 1995, with Laura Buddensieg, he set up Barrese & Buddensieg, Strategic and Communication Design, which provides initial design for communication systems, strategic design, corporate identity projects and Super Projects (www.barrese.com). Barrese & Buddensieg have received numerous acknowledgements, including three "Compassi d'Oro" and four special mentions. In recent years he has resumed intensive artistic work. · www.antoniobarrese.it © Antonio Barrese © Photo: Barrese & Buddensieg 2008 Antonio Barrese, Zeus Playing, 2008, Interactive Installation, aluminium, steel, transformers, wood, loaned by the artist |
