Case Studies

Over the course of the digital art conservation project, ten case studies were carried out. The object of the case studies were works of art from the collection of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, the Espace multimédia gantner, Bourogne (Territoire der Belfort), des Hauses für elektronische Künste Basel, des FRAC Alsace, Sélestat, and the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de la Ville de Strasbourg. By means of a broad range of conceptual and technological work typologies, a comprehensive catalog of problems could be examined and corresponding methods formulated, tested and applied. Significantly, a documentation model was developed which in a flexible manner enables the adequate documentation of digital artworks for the purposes of collecting and conservation, and which can be further expanded if necessary. The work carried out in connection with the case studies was coordinated by the ZKM | Karlsruhe.
