Frank Stürmer's video works focus on actions and situations that can generally be found almost any - where. His observant gaze is able to identify something positive in these unspectacular-at first glance seemingly insignificant-scenes that sur prises us as the viewer and makes us stop and think. The people, rooms or landscapes are usually visualized in pictures which are intentionally serene-frequently using static camera shots-and yet their inherent, rather inexplicable energy invite longer contemplation. After just a couple of seconds, the viewer begins to suspect that the images are not just copies of everyday life, but are studies of something more essential. During the presentation of the works, the artist deliberately combines and contrasts two or three in essence disparate cinematic processes. This results in a kind of 'combinatorial reassembly' in the mind of the viewer, thus leading to completely new experiences and insights. One could say that it is these additions and interactions that distinguish the work as a whole. [...]
