artintact

The series artintact was published by the ZKM | Institute for Visual Media between 1994 and 1999 in five editions. The aim was to make accessible to a broad public the outstanding works of media art independent of space and time. An important role here was the selection of the medium: in the mid 1990s, the CD Rom was “state of the art”. It was this which first made it possible to present the works outside the context of the “exhibition” or the “media festival”. artintact was thus an exhibition, which could be taken back home and which could be available at any time. At the same time, it was easy to again integrate the works into public media events.
The works of art, partly installations or environments, were especially adapted to the CD Rom edition so that they could function both on the computer as well as the exhibition space. A total of fifteen internationally renowned media artists were presented in the series. They were published together in 2002 on DVD, the adequate storage medium today. This media art treasure trove is taken up once again. All works of the DVD edition are made accessible on two work places. In this way, the visitors of the ZKM | Karlsruhe can compile their personal exhibition and make those specific selections they would like to view.
